At the present time a vacancy exists for a full-time, 260-day Brandywine Virtual Academy Student Advisor (Teaching Support Assistant) within the Division of Communications & Learning Solutions of the Chester County Intermediate Unit. The position is located in Downingtown, PA. Position Title: BVA/PVA Student AdvisorDepartment/Program: Communications & Learning Solutions/BVAReports to (position): Student Support LiaisonSUMMARY OF POSITION:To be the main point of contact for students in the Brandywine Virtual Academy.This position communicates with students, families, & school district partners to help them understand the program and maneuver through the BVA systems. This position is also responsible for understanding the supports needed for students to be successful in their online learning. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Student Supporta. Monitor and communicate student progress to stakeholdersb. Resolve student questions by connecting the student with supporting resourcesc. Teach students self-advocacy skillsd.Help students learn how to communicate curriculum questions to their teacherse. Ensure students and stakeholders understand student progressf. Help with low level technical issues and escalate when necessaryg. Promote BVA/PVA resources, events, and activitiesh. Refer students to academic and attendance interventionsi. Assist students and families through the orientation processj. Maintain ongoing regular contact with students, families, and districtsk. Maintain a Virtual Office presence as neededl.Support homeroom/advisory responsibilities per district or BVA requestm. Maintain a safe and supportive environment for students to thrive and engage onsite at BVA/PVA locationsn. Achieve proficiency in Learning Management Systems, Student Information Systems, and other district/BVA supported technologieso. Perform other tasks as requested by the Student Support Liaison2. Family & District Supporta. Communicate with families and district personnel to answer their questions regarding the program to include virtual meetings, in-person orientations, and traditional forms of communication (phone/email/messaging apps)b.Explain student data and how to check students’ grades and progressc. Highlight student achievement & escalate concerns when appropriated. Support student-centered activities to include newsletters and clubse. Communicate important dates for district testing (PSSA’s, SAT’s, etc.)f. Participate in district partner meetingsg. Attend student-teacher conferences as requestedh. Assist districts with course selectioni. Work with registrars and districts to quality check student enrollmentsj. While assigned to one location, circumstances may arise for temporary relocations due to program or district needs.Salary: (2022-2023)Project; Band 11,$42,281 - $52,851 annually based on a 260 day calendar)Schedule:• 260 days per year• 7.5 hours per day/ 5 days per week• The successful candidate will be required to work one evening per week and may occasionally be required to work on a Saturday for special events. Location:The position's primary location will be at the CCIU Educational Service Center in Downingtown, PA.
