Chief Information Officer (CIO) – Dialysis StartupAbout the RoleWe are seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial Chief Information Officer (CIO) to lead all technology, data, and information-security functions for our rapidly growing dialysis startup.This is a pivotal executive role responsible for shaping our technology vision, ensuring operational excellence, building secure and scalable systems, managing clinical and business data, and supporting new dialysis center buildouts nationwide. The ideal candidate is a proactive doer—someone who takes initiative, drives solutions end-to-end, vets vendors quickly, and executes with urgency. This leader must bring deep experience in healthcare, especially dialysis operations, regulatory compliance, analytics, and multi-site clinical technology deployments.Key Responsibilities1. Technology Strategy & Leadership• Build and execute the company’s IT roadmap, aligned with business, clinical, and compliance goals. • Lead technology planning for new dialysis clinic buildouts, including facility networking, hardware, EHR/EMR systems, telehealth, and security infrastructure. • Conduct SWOT analyses, identify emerging risks, and provide strategic recommendations to executive leadership. • Present clear, actionable technology strategies to the Board of Directors, including bolthires-benefit analyses, risk assessments, timelines, and ROI cases.2. Information Security & Compliance• Lead all Information Security (InfoSec) responsibilities, ensuring compliance with HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC2, and other healthcare regulatory frameworks. • Build and enforce policies for data protection, access control, encryption, incident response, and disaster recovery. • Regularly evaluate vulnerabilities, threat vectors, and regulatory updates specific to dialysis operations and healthcare services. 3. Vendor Management & Technical Buildouts• Identify, vet, negotiate, and onboard vendors for:• Clinical and business software (EHR, scheduling, RCM, patient management)• Networking and telecommunications• Physical buildout technology (security cameras, access control, network wiring, etc.)• Cloud hosting, managed services, and hardware procurement• Perform rapid bolthires analyses and comparisons to enable confident, timely decision-making.• Oversee vendor performance, SLAs, contract renewals, and integration work. 4. Data, Analytics, & Reporting• Build the technology foundation for data warehouse, ETL pipelines, and BI tools. • Lead creation of Power BI, Tableau, and operational dashboards for finance, clinical quality, scheduling, RCM, and corporate KPIs. • Ensure data integrity, interoperability, and accessibility across clinical and business systems. • Drive a data-centric culture by enabling self-service analytics. 5. Product, Website, & Digital Experience• Oversee development, maintenance, and optimization of the company website, digital patient tools, and marketing integrations.• Partner with business teams to design patient-facing digital experiences that align with clinical workflow and data security requirements. • Manage SEO, analytics, and digital infrastructure for lead generation and brand presence. 6. Operations & Infrastructure• Architect secure, reliable infrastructure for a multi-clinic operation, including:• Cloud services• VoIP & telecommunications• Networking and Wi-Fi• Clinical device management• Standardize clinic IT setups so new locations can be deployed rapidly and consistently.7. Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration• Build and mentor a high-performing IT team capable of supporting rapid scale. • Work closely with clinical operations, finance, legal/compliance, and executive leadership to align technology initiatives with operational needs. • Serve as the company’s technology advocate in stakeholder meetings, partnerships, and investor presentations. QualificationsRequired• 7–10+ years of IT leadership experience, preferably CIO, VP of IT, or Director of Technology in healthcare, dialysis, or multi-site clinical environments.• Demonstrated startup experience, with the ability to build from scratch and operate under ambiguity. • Proven track record managing healthcare InfoSec, including HIPAA compliance and risk mitigation. • Strong experience conducting SWOT analyses, risk assessments, and board-level presentations. • Excellent vendor-management ability; capable of quickly evaluating solutions, negotiating contracts, and driving implementation. • Deep familiarity with clinical systems, RCM, EHR integrations, and healthcare data workflows.• Hands-on experience with Power BI, Tableau, SQL, and enterprise data management. • Experience leading technology for clinic or facility buildouts (dialysis preferred). • An execution-first mindset: bias for action, strong ownership, and ability to deliver results rapidly. Preferred• Dialysis industry experience (EMRs, water room systems, flow sheets, clinical equipment integrations). • Experience with Epic, eClinicalWorks, Falcon, or other common dialysis EMRs. • Prior leadership of a data, analytics, or InfoSec team.• Cloud certifications (Azure, AWS) or cybersecurity certifications (CISSP, CISM). • Experience scaling from early-stage to multi-state operations.
