OverviewWe are seeking a dedicated Part-Time Editorial Assistant to support our community news platform, website, and email newsletter. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about journalism, community engagement, and content creation. The ideal candidate will assist in producing high-quality content, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to style guidelines. This position is perfect for someone looking to gain experience in media, journalism, or communications within a dynamic and community-focused environment.DutiesStage 1:Build calendar entries. Outreach to organizations to get details and photos, solicit more events for listings, solicit more write-bolthires from participating organizations. Update contact lists. Add categories to calendars. Post articles to website and social media platforms, assist in developing and formatting content for e-newsletters, help select relevant articles from news services. Stage 2:If you have aptitude for the following, your responsibilities and hours can increase:• Proofread and copy edit articles, press releases, and community updates to ensure grammatical accuracy and clarity• Assist with editing articles for style consistency, following AP style and Chicago Manual of Style guidelines• Conduct fact-checking and research to verify information before publication• Support writers in developing content ideas and proposals for community stories and features• Write engaging content for website posts, email newsletters, and social media updates• Collaborate with the editorial team to plan content calendars and meet publication deadlines• Perform technical tasks such as formatting articles using word processing tools and content management systems• Contribute creative writing pieces that resonate with local audiences and enhance community engagement• Ensure all content aligns with journalistic standards, including accuracy, fairness, and objectivitySkills• Proofreading, copy editing, and editing skills with a keen eye for detail• Excellent written communication skills across various formats including journalism, technical writing, and creative writing• Proficiency in AP style, Chicago Manual of Style, and other editorial guidelines• Ability to conduct thorough research and fact-checking efficiently• Effective research skills to gather relevant community information• Strong understanding of Word processing tools and content management systems• Creative thinking with the ability to craft compelling stories tailored to community interests• Good proposal writing skills for story pitches or project ideas• Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and contributorsThis part-time position provides valuable experience in journalism, editing, and digital media production while supporting local communities through quality storytelling.Pay: $16.00 - $24.00 per hourExpected hours: 3.0 – 15.0 per weekBenefits:• Flexible schedule• Professional development assistanceWork Location:Remote Apply tot his job
