Industrial Designer / CAD Engineer — Silicone Overmold (Fusion / STEP, Consumer–Medical Device) - Contract to Hire
MilkEaze – Silicone Overmold CAD Freelancer Job Description Job Title Industrial Designer / CAD Engineer — Silicone Overmold (Fusion / STEP, Consumer–Medical Device) Company / Project Overview MilkEaze is an early-stage maternal health device company developing a silicone overmolded wearable used during breastfeeding. The product interfaces directly with the breast and must balance comfort, safety, manufacturability, and electronics integration. The research foundation, sizing rationale, and geometry strategy are already defined. This role is focused on executing production-ready CAD geometry, not exploratory ideation. Project Objective Create production-ready CAD geometry (STEP) for a CAKES-inspired silicone overmold, ( supporting two initial SKUs, suitable for injection molding and silicone tooling. Scope of Work Primary Tasks Build parametric, spline-based CAD geometry (Fusion 360 preferred) Create a smooth, continuous dome profile with no curvature discontinuities Implement: Inner opening (ID) sizing per SKU Tapered, feathered edges for comfort Variable silicone thickness (thin edge → thicker central region) Design around a curved/conical flex PCB band (no flat shelf required) Ensure geometry is: Anatomically comfortable Injection-mold friendly Free of sharp edges or pressure concentrators Deliverables STEP files (authoritative geometry) Optional: native Fusion files Optional: dimensioned drawings for vendor reference Clear file naming and versioning by SKU Design Inputs Provided by MilkEaze Research-backed areola sizing decision matrix Defined SKU strategy: SKU 1: ID 38 mm SKU 2: ID 45 mm Dome depth target (~19.5 mm) Silicone thickness envelope (~0.5 mm at edge → ~3.8 mm max) Flex PCB constraints: ~12 mm radial band ~2.3 mm component height Curvature allowed / encouraged Reference inspiration from commercial silicone products Existing draft STL/STEP files (context only; not final geometry) Required Skills & Experience Must Have Strong experience with Fusion 360 or equivalent parametric CAD tool Demonstrated work with silicone or soft elastomer products Comfort with splines, revolved surfaces, offsets, and curvature continuity Experience delivering STEP files for injection molding Ability to execute against defined constraints without redesigning product intent Nice to Have Medical device, wearable, or consumer health product experience Experience designing overmolds around electronics Familiarity with tooling considerations for silicone molding What This Project Is NOT Not concept ideation or industrial styling from scratch Not STL-only or 3D-print-focused work Not rendering or visualization-centric Not a branding exercise Engagement Details Short-term, clearly scoped project Paid hourly or fixed-price (to be agreed) Potential follow-on work as MilkEaze advances toward tooling Application Instructions Please include: 2–3 portfolio examples involving: Silicone or elastomer products Wearables or anatomical interfaces Injection-molded consumer products Your primary CAD tool A brief description of your experience with spline-based surface modeling Confirmation you can deliver STEP (not just STL) files Evaluation Focus We are prioritizing candidates who demonstrate: Clear understanding of surface continuity and manufacturable geometry Experience translating constraints into clean CAD Practical communication and execution reliability Apply tot his job
