About the position The Accounting Specialist position at Kansas State University is a part-time role focused on managing accounts receivable for the Veterinary Health Center. The specialist will handle client accounts, process payments, reconcile cash drawers, and assist clients with their account inquiries. This role requires effective communication and problem-solving skills to address client payment issues and ensure accurate financial transactions. Responsibilities Evaluate patient accounts to ensure all transactions have posted correctly. , Accept payments from clients using various methods (cash, credit card, check, CareCredit). , Calculate and return change as required by the payment method. , Maintain adequate change denominations in the cash drawer and request additional change as needed. , Reconcile cash drawers and sales receipts at required points and at the end of shifts. , Review and correct the Daily Payment Report (DYPY) as needed. , Communicate with clients sensitively regarding their accounts, especially during difficult situations. , Answer client questions and explain policies and payment options. , Collaborate with the manager on client payment problems and credit issues. , Monitor client account details for non-payments and delayed payments. , Research and resolve client queries as needed. , Track and work with the Business Manager to resolve outstanding payment issues. , Follow up on collection and allocation of payments. , Assist with the monthly generation of client invoices and statements when needed. , Communicate with clients regarding past due balances and document interactions. Requirements High school diploma. , 6 months of relevant experience. Nice-to-haves Bachelor's degree in business or related field. , 2-3 years of experience in cashiering or accounts receivable. , Ability to calculate sales and change quickly. , Accountability and accuracy in reconciling sales receipts. , Oriented toward serving others and helping clients. , Exceptional client-service skills. , Excellent verbal communication skills. , Ability to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment. , Attention to detail. , Knowledge of point-of-sale systems.
