Summary of Responsibilities Under the direction of the department chair or assistant department chair, instructors shall perform some or all of the following duties: • Teach a variety of Mathematical or Quantitative Reasoning courses • Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study with measurable objectives for each course taught • Prepares instructional materials including course syllabi, exams, and instructional materials as necessary • Evaluates student learning utilizing accepted assessment strategies • Engages classes in a student-oriented approach to instruction • Maintains and submits records of student accountability and performance • Provide an open, student-centered, discrimination-free classroom environment Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications Graduated from an accredited university with a minimum of a B.S. in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field. 18 credit hours of graduate-level mathematics/statistics or a level 4 mathematics endorsement are required to teach MAT1000 or above. Preferred Qualifications: • A Master's degree in Mathematics or a closely related field • At least two years of teaching developmental math classes or quantitative reasoning classes at the college level • Experience in teaching non-traditional students Knowledge / Skills / Abilities • Knowledge of the principles and methodology of the subject matter and course content. • Skill in instruction strategies and techniques. • Skill in classroom management. • Ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate students. • Ability to communicate (written and oral) with a wide variety of students, faculty, and others effectively. • Ability to engage in innovative, student-centered pedagogy. • Interpersonal, problem-solving, decision-making, and supervisory skills.
