Key Responsibilities:
- Tutor students in reading, math, and language arts, both individually and in small groups
- Provide academic and cultural developmental support to eligible ANE students, integrating into classrooms with high numbers of ANE students
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop and implement strategies for supporting Alaska Native/American Indian students
- Maintain accurate records and implement plans to ensure student progress and program effectiveness
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, supervisors, and other support staff
- Demonstrate sensitivity to unique and challenging student differences, adapting instruction to meet individual needs
Essential Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; ANE program tutors working in a Title I School-wide program must possess a total of 48 hours of college credit, an associate's degree, or have passed the ParaPro Assessment
- Experience working with children in an instructional environment, preferably with Native communities
- Knowledge of computers and word processing software, with strong math, reading, writing, and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to work effectively with students, parents, supervisors, and other support staff, demonstrating critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Sensitivity to unique and challenging student differences, with a commitment to cultural awareness and understanding
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in education, Native American studies, or a related field
- Experience working with Alaska Native cultures and communities, with a deep understanding of local customs and traditions
- Certification or training in education, tutoring, or a related field
- Bilingual or multilingual skills, with the ability to communicate with students and families in their native language
