About the position Responsibilities • Provide direct service advising, intensive career counseling, coaching and transition assistance to CSF - DC Scholars. • Advise and develop graduate school, internship and career plans for CSF-DC Scholars. • Assist students in the research process for graduate education programs and employment search. • Review career options, assist students with preparing resumes, interviewing skills and searching for jobs & internships electronically. • Conduct ongoing research to provide information and feedback about recruitment, post-graduation activities and employment for students. • Coordinate in-person meetings with assigned students during summer to review academic progress in major, degree audits and post-graduation plans. • Advise CSF-DC Scholars through telephone, virtual and in-person meetings throughout the academic year to assess needs and provide differentiated supports. • Develop and implement proactive plans for high-risk students related to career options. • Document all student engagements, referrals and interventions. • Enter, monitor and update student data on a regular basis, build data queries and exports as needed. • Submit data and monthly program reports to the Program Manager. • Develop and present multiple training workshops to prepare students on aspects of the employment, job/career and graduate school search process. • Identify key career services or college staff on campuses who can serve as points of contact for CSF-DC Scholars. • Update and maintain contact information for all scholars and key staff at colleges/universities related to job/career placement and support. • Work cross-functionally to enhance summer programming. • Update and assist with policy development, retention forms, reports and relevant documents. • Serve as an advocate and ambassador for CSF-DC and the CSF Scholars program by attending and participating in community functions and programs that enhance the visibility of our programs. Requirements • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's or degree in Social Sciences/Psychology, Education, Counseling, and Social Work preferred. • Three to five years of experience in fields related to academic advising, career services counseling, career placement assistance, advising, higher education administration or college success/retention programming and support. Nice-to-haves • Expertise in higher education, academic advising, and college student development theory. • Knowledge of best practices that support retention, persistence and graduation for underrepresented students. • Self-starter, positive, personable and able to relate well with diverse populations and age groups, with particular emphasis on working with young people ages 16-24. • Ability to build networks, partnerships and connections in support of student success in the areas of internships, business, careers, education and programming. • Excellent organizational and project management skills. • Ability to multi-task with a high level of competency and accuracy. • Demonstrate a commitment to extraordinary customer service. • Skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Pivot tables, Power BI, PowerPoint and Outlook). • Must be creative and able to problem-solve in a work environment composed of small mission-focused teams working together to accomplish the goals of the Foundation. • Ability to develop and deliver best practice-based career services, academic advising, student support services, college retention initiatives, and pre-professional career advising and planning. • Ability to work independently while observing and complying with all standards of the supervision personnel and relating programs and services of the employer. • Ability to identify and solve problems. • An established commitment to work collaboratively and harmoniously with CSF staff, colleagues and stakeholders. • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, respecting individual differences, and serving diverse populations. • Initiative to learn and enhance skills that promote equity and an understanding of oppression and its impact on underserved populations.
