About the Role The Director of Data Science will be responsible for leading the Global Data Strategy group within Risk Finance. The primary duty of this group is to construct and maintain centralized reporting capabilities, implement process enhancements and automation, and drive innovative data solutions to provide robust forecasts and analytics for the wider Risk Finance organization. Key Responsibilities Strategic Analysis and Insights : Lead the strategic analysis of American Express credit metrics, credit provision, and reserve for Senior Management in Risk and Finance. Data Asset Management : Own specific data assets/packages within Risk Finance, and become a power user of the relevant tools (troubleshoot issues, reconcile results, identify enhancements and automation opportunities, and teach other users to drive adoption). Reporting and Analytics : Develop and maintain standard and ad-hoc reports utilized by Risk Finance and/or business partners; provide credit-related analytical support. Senior Management Presentations : Develop and present key analyses and recommendations to Senior Management. Relationship Building : Build and maintain relationships across Risk Finance portfolio groups and with partners in Risk, Controllership, Tech, etc. Decision Support : Provide decision-support with a strong emphasis on developing analytics that identify trends and opportunities within the portfolio which can be used to optimize Business and Risk decisions. Requirements and Qualifications Essential Qualifications Advanced Experience : Advanced experience working with most of the following: SQL/Hive, Power BI/Tableau, Python/R, VBA, TM1. Attention to Detail : Superior attention to detail, along with exemplary organizational and problem-solving skills. Results-Driven : Results-driven and proactive with the ability to manage multiple tasks and work within tight timelines. Master's Degree : Master's degree in advanced mathematics or statistical discipline required. Preferred Qualifications Machine Learning : Experience in ML modeling is a plus. Data Science : Experience working with advanced data science tools and techniques.
