The Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York is seeking a Disability Advocacy Project (DAP) Staff Attorney to champion the rights of individuals facing challenges in the community. This role involves providing legal representation and assistance in Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income claims, while collaborating with a team to develop innovative strategies tailored to clients' needs. Responsibilities Provide legal representation and assistance in Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) claims May be assigned cases involving eligibility for public assistance and Medicaid benefits Collaborate with a passionate team, engaging in brainstorming sessions to develop innovative strategies and solutions tailored to each client's unique situation Participate in training and advocacy initiatives, ensuring skills and knowledge remain sharp Build strong relationships with clients while navigating complex legal landscapes Skills Admitted to the NYS Bar or eligible to sit for the NYS Bar exam Demonstrated commitment to delivering high-quality legal services to various civil matters Effective communication skills to engage compassionately with clients and collaborate seamlessly with colleagues Organized and able to work independently and efficiently, managing multiple cases while meeting deadlines Strong computer skills, including accurate data entry Valid driver's license and access to a car for outreach and client visits across the service area Prior legal experience in Social Security Administration disability representation Being multilingual, especially in Spanish Benefits Medical Dental Vision Paid Time Off Health Dental Vision Enhanced EAP TSA Retirement and Employer contributions Sick Personal Vacation 14 Holidays Bereavement Parental Leave Moving expenses Mileage reimbursement College Tuition/Loan Repayment program Professional Licenses Bar Dues Professional Memberships Flexible Working Schedule Company Overview The Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York (LASNNY) fights for fairness, dignity, and justice for those living in poverty and for a society which is inclusive and equitable for all.
