Job Summary This full-time position (35 hours per week) will provide essential support to students with special needs in a self-contained early childhood special education setting. The successful candidate will work closely with licensed teachers and therapists to implement individualized instructional plans, promote student engagement, and facilitate learning experiences that cater to diverse abilities. This role requires a unique blend of empathy, patience, and educational expertise, making it an ideal fit for those who are passionate about supporting young learners with special needs. Key Responsibilities Implement instructional plans as determined by licensed teachers and therapists, adapting to meet the diverse needs of students. Provide physical care and support as needed, including diapering, toileting, feeding, and reinforcing adaptive PE/motor activities. Observe, document, and reinforce positive student behaviors, communicating effectively with teachers and facilitators. Participate in weekly team meetings to review student progress, plan upcoming lessons, and engage in professional development opportunities. Assist with non-instructional activities, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment. Retrieve students from buses or cars at the start of classes and escort them to appropriate buses or cars at the end of classes when required. Record and update student progress toward achieving individual educational plan objectives. Essential Qualifications and Skills Education and Certifications Valid Educator License with Stipulations (PARA), Substitute License, or Professional Educator License. Associate's degree or higher, 60 semester hours of coursework, or equivalent. High School Diploma or GED with a score of 460 or higher on the ETS Parapro or specific ACT Workkeys scores. Skills and Competencies Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and families. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Proficiency in using personal computers, software applications (e.g., Word, Excel), and technology-based programs. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion. Empathy, patience, and understanding when working with students with special needs. Physical Abilities and Work Environment Ability to lift students and perform physical manipulations as needed. Regularly required to see, speak, and hear; frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb, climb stairs or balance, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Ability to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 50 lbs. Work in a standard school building environment and outdoors during student activities.
