WAHEN is the new global network focused on equitable access and success in higher education. Launched in 2024, WAHEN is the professional, global organisation to support equitable access and success in higher education. It provides universities and other organisations across the world opportunities to share their practice, to collaborate with each other and to effect change within their own countries. WAHEN is led by the University of West London and the National Education Opportunities Network (NEON) in the UK, and supported by a board that includes the World Bank and UNESCO. The post-holder will also support the delivery of the WAHEN events programme, communications with stakeholders and development of WAHEN research outputs. The Department / School / College The World Access to Higher Education Network (WAHEN) is a new initiative that is based at Ruskin College, Oxford. WAHEN aims to establish an international network of universities and other organisations committed to addressing inequalities in access and success in higher education by social background. Across the world you are less likely to attend higher education if you are from a lower socio-economic group or other group who other less advantaged background. Ruskin College became part of the UWL group in 2021 and offers course from entry level to post-graduate as well as leading on research related to addressing inequality. The Role We are seeking a self-starter who wants to affect what universities, government and policy-makers do across the world and who is passionate about reducing inequality. This is a unique opportunity to help build a global network which has the support of the World Bank and UNESCO. The post-holder will: Support the WAHEN Director in producing the WAHEN monthly news bulletin for members to include producing content, design and distribution. Assist in planning WAHEN’s online and physical event programme to include identifying presenters, liaison with them and curating engaging and exciting content. Recording and processing of event participant information and maintaining financial records relating the WAHEN Event programme. Liaise with universities and governments across the world in marketing the WAHEN membership offer. Enable the strategic development of WAHEN by scheduling meetings and co-ordinating external engagement for the WAHEN Director. Update the WAHEN website and social media presence to maintain the external profile of the organisation. Organise WAHEN Board meetings which includes collating the papers for the meetings and taking minutes. The Person An undergraduate degree is essential and postgraduate degree desirable. An understanding of widening access to higher education/social mobility and the barriers to access and success in higher education for learners from disadvantaged and/or underrepresented groups. is essential. Excellent written and oral communication skills and organisational skills including the ability to work independently are also essential in this role.
