Key Responsibilities

• Supports the prior authorization request process to ensure all authorization requests are addressed properly and in the contractual timeline.
• Performs data entry to maintain and update authorization requests in the utilization management system.
• Assists the utilization management team with ongoing tracking and appropriate documentation on authorizations and referrals by policies and guidelines.
• Contributes to the authorization review process by documenting necessary medical information such as history, diagnosis, and prognosis based on the referral to the clinical reviewer for determination.
• Remains up to date on healthcare, authorization processes, policies, and procedures, and performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with all policies and standards, ensuring that all work is completed to the highest level of quality and accuracy.
• Receives faxes, triages them, and sends them out to the appropriate teams within blithequark's HealthPlan.
• Supports the intake department to streamline the intake process, ensuring that all documentation is accurate and up to date.
• Enters pertinent claims information from source documents, correcting entries where indicated and maintaining appropriate records, files, and documentation.

Performance Expectations and Metrics

As an Authorization Specialist at blithequark, you will be expected to meet the following performance expectations and metrics:

• Process a high volume of faxes, with a target of 3,500 to 4,000 faxes per day, ensuring that all faxes are triaged and sent to the appropriate teams within 1-2 hours of receipt.
• Achieve a typing speed of 50-60 words per minute, with a minimum of 10,000 keystrokes per hour, demonstrating exceptional data entry skills and attention to detail.

Required Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and experience:

• A minimum typing speed of 60 words per minute, with the ability to pass a typing test and attach the results to your resume.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• High school diploma or equivalent required, with the possibility of conversion to a permanent role later.
• Ability to be punctual and reliable, with open availability to work a variety of shifts, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology and insurance preferred, but not required.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• 3 months to 1 year of data processing or clerical experience, demonstrating a strong foundation in data entry and administrative support.
