About the Role: Freelance Interpreter for Puular, Igbo, Foo Chow, Bambara, Soninke, and Other Rare Languages We're on the lookout for talented individuals with advanced proficiency in two or more languages, including rare and indigenous languages such as Puular, Igbo, Foo Chow, Bambara, Soninke, Fukienese, Quiche, Shuar, Hmong, and Dari/Farsi. As a Freelance Interpreter with Lionbridge, you'll play a critical role in facilitating communication across languages and cultures, working on a variety of projects in industries like Legal, Healthcare, and Government. Key Responsibilities: Handle On-Demand Calls: Accept and take ownership of incoming calls and conversations, providing accurate and meaningful interpretations between speakers of different languages. Cultural Sensitivity and Professionalism: Remain current, courteous, and professional when dealing with sensitive subjects across diverse cultures and locations. Industry Terminology and Procedures: Receive training on and utilize industry-specific terminology, displaying common practices and procedures. Flexible Scheduling: Work on a flexible schedule, with a recommended minimum of 16 hours per week, during regular US business hours. Essential Qualifications: Advanced Language Abilities: Proficiency in two or more spoken languages, with a deep understanding of nuances and cultural contexts. Exceptional Memory Retention and Communication Skills: Demonstrate excellent memory retention, note-taking, and communication skills in the languages you'll be working with. Language Assessment: Complete and pass a language assessment in the languages you're assigned to interpret. Preferred Qualifications: Prior Interpretation Experience: Previous experience in interpretation or language services is a plus, although not required. Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with industry-specific terminology and procedures is desirable.
