Job Summary
As an independent contractor, you will work from home as a freelance transcriptionist, transcribing a variety of audio and video content, including interviews, focus groups, and educational materials. This is a unique opportunity to work on diverse projects, develop your skills, and contribute to the preservation of history. You will be required to deliver high-quality transcripts within a short turnaround time, typically 24 hours or less for an hour-long file.
Key Responsibilities
- Transcribe audio and video content accurately and efficiently, using your own equipment and software
- Deliver high-quality transcripts within the specified turnaround time
- Follow our in-house style manual and project-specific instructions
- Verify names and terms via brief internet research to ensure accuracy
- Use transcription software controlled via hotkeys or a foot pedal, and good-quality headphones
- Return transcripts as .doc files, meeting our formatting requirements
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A strong and diverse skillset in language, style, and punctuation
- Fast and accurate typing skills, with a minimum of 80 wpm and 98% accuracy
- The ability to follow our in-house style manual and project-specific instructions
- Excellent research skills, with the ability to verify names and terms via brief internet research
- A reliable internet connection and the ability to use Dropbox links
- Fluency in multiple languages is a plus, but not required
- Experience in transcription, particularly in the textile industry, is highly desirable
