Job Summary
As a Data Scientist, Marketing Analytics at Etsy, you will be responsible for analyzing complex data sets to identify trends, opportunities, and challenges. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, product, engineering, and finance, to drive business growth and improve the Etsy experience. Your primary focus will be on developing and implementing marketing analytics and insights that inform business decisions and drive revenue growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, implement, and refine core marketing estimation structures and models, including attribution, beat, CLV, return on investment, try approach, and segmentation.
- Drive forward strategy for performance marketing partners by transforming raw data into meaningful and effective analyses described by service, method clarity, and clear documentation.
- Play a fundamental role in concluding how to best engage and grow Etsy clients by determining and targeting opportunities for growth through analysis of behavioral and transactional data.
- Identify key metrics that drive the performance of marketing channels and advertising products, make these available to partners through dashboards and reports, and drive these metrics through statistical analyses of investigations.
- Constantly assess and refine your technical toolbox, sharing what you learn with the team.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement data-driven solutions that drive business outcomes.
- Develop and maintain complex data models and algorithms to analyze large data sets.
- Communicate insights and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements and Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- 3+ years of proven experience as a data scientist/expert or in a quantitative role where you extracted insights from large datasets with little engineering help.
- Experience with performance/digital marketing operations, channel attribution, churn and lifetime value models, analytical tools and frameworks, and finding efficient growth strategies.
- Proficient in SQL and either R or Python. Bonus points for experience with the Hadoop ecosystem or additional scripting languages (Scala, PHP, Ruby, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to convey insights verbally, visually, and in writing to colleagues and stakeholders.
- Comfortable guiding others, recommending tools and standard approaches to improve the efficiency of the team's work.
- Strong, independent, analytical problem solver who enjoys contemplating and solving complex and nuanced problems.
- Enthusiastic about topics like experiment design, data visualization, and statistical analysis techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Looker, Scene, or other data visualization software.
- Familiarity with machine learning algorithms and techniques.
- Knowledge of data warehousing and ETL processes.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
