Position Summary We are seeking to establish a pool of part-time lecturers to teach in the Department of Languages and Cultures during the 2023-24 academic year. The ideal candidates will have a strong background in teaching languages and cultures, with a focus on Spanish for professional purposes. The department offers a range of programs, including majors and minors in Spanish, German, French, Asian Studies, and Latin American Studies, as well as a Master of Arts in Language Teaching and a Graduate TESOL Certificate. Key Responsibilities Teach lower and upper division undergraduate courses and some graduate courses in languages and cultures Develop and deliver course materials that promote student engagement and academic success Assess student learning and provide constructive feedback Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the development of the department's programs Engage with students and colleagues to create a positive and inclusive learning environment Minimum Qualifications To be considered for this position, you must meet the following minimum qualifications: A Master of Arts in a related field for undergraduate courses or a PhD in second language acquisition, applied linguistics, or a related field for graduate courses Advanced proficiency in the language to be taught (for language teaching positions) Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to use communicative teaching methodologies (for language teaching positions) Preferred Qualifications We prefer candidates with: Teaching experience and evidence of effective teaching Bilingual or multilingual abilities Experience working with diverse student populations A commitment to creating an inclusive and accessible learning environment What We Offer As a part-time lecturer at Chico State, you will have the opportunity to: Contribute to the academic success and personal growth of our diverse student body Work with a talented and dedicated team of faculty and staff Develop your teaching skills and expertise in a supportive environment Participate in departmental and university-wide initiatives and events Enjoy a competitive salary and benefits package, including tuition fee waiver (if eligible) Salary and Benefits The salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with education and experience. The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, with most new lecturers being hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. The salary ranges are as follows: Lecturer A/2 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $4,530 - $6,056 per month Lecturer B/3 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $5,405 - $11,994 per month Lecturer C/4 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $6,190 - $13,172 per month Lecturer D/5 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $7,794 - $13,797 per month California State University, Chico offers a range of benefits to its employees, including sick leave, vacation, health insurance, and more.
