Job Overview
We are looking for a reliable and empathetic individual to serve as a Student Companion in the Time Together Program. As a Student Worker, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of older adults, while gaining valuable experience and skills in the field of aging and healthcare. This is a part-time, non-exempt position that requires a commitment of 4-10 hours per week, with a competitive hourly rate of $10.00.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide caring companionship and engagement to older adults in their homes, including those with mild to moderate-stage dementia
- Develop and implement activities designed to stimulate mental activity, reduce social isolation, and improve overall well-being
- Attend mandatory virtual training sessions and maintain timely attendance and communication with caregivers and program staff
- Maintain accurate time logs and provide information to program staff in a timely manner
- Communicate effectively with caregivers and program staff to address preferences, concerns, and needs related to respite care and the care receiver
Essential Qualifications
- Must be a current college student in the greater Philadelphia area with a proven track record of academic success
- Ability to engage with older adults in person, in their homes, and provide companionship and support
- Complete the required Criminal Background Clearance
- Experience working with older adults, including those with dementia and similar illnesses, is preferred
- Willingness to learn, listen, adapt, and demonstrate patience in respite care is required for those without experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in healthcare, social work, or a related field
- Knowledge of gerontology, memory loss, and dementia care
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility and adaptability in responding to changing needs and priorities
