Job Overview As a Teaching Assistant NEC, you'll play a vital role in supporting our teachers and students in a remote or in-person setting. This is a fully remote role, offering you the flexibility to work from anywhere, or you may be required to work on-site in Newark, NY, depending on the specific needs of our programs. You'll work under the general supervision of a licensed or certified teacher to provide instructional services to students with diverse needs, and complete related tasks as required. Key Responsibilities Support students to ensure a safe, orderly environment that is conducive to teaching and learning. Implement specialized instruction to students with emotional and learning disabilities, under the guidance of a licensed or certified teacher. Collaborate with colleagues to meet student learning needs and promote a culture of inclusivity. Communicate regularly and effectively with stakeholders, including teachers, parents, and other support staff. Assist students with daily living skills, such as dressing, toileting, and feeding, as applicable. Maintain accurate records and assist with record-keeping tasks. Attend staff meetings and training sessions to stay up-to-date on best practices and program developments. Promote equity and culturally responsive practices to create inclusive environments that support the diverse needs of our students. Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you'll need: A strong understanding of the needs of students with diverse abilities, including autism, emotional disabilities, and developmental disabilities. Experience working with students with diverse needs, and a proven track record of providing supportive and inclusive instruction. The ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborating with teachers, support staff, and other stakeholders. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents. A commitment to promoting equity and culturally responsive practices in your work. Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable: A degree in a relevant field, such as education or special education. Certification or licensure as a teaching assistant or in a related field. Experience working with students with specific needs, such as autism or emotional disabilities. Training or experience in crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, or other relevant areas.
