Job Summary:
As a Family Services Specialist at Lifesharing, you will be responsible for supporting grieving families in a hospital setting faced with end-of-life decisions. Your primary role will be to facilitate organ and tissue donation discussions with potential donor families, provide emotional support, and develop a collaborative plan to discuss donation options. You will work closely with families, medical staff, and other stakeholders to ensure a seamless donation process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide emotional support and counseling to potential donor families in a hospital setting
- Facilitate organ and tissue donation discussions with families, ensuring sensitivity and compassion
- Develop a collaborative plan to discuss donation options with families, taking into account their unique needs and circumstances
- Complete all donation-related paperwork, provide end-of-life mementos, and serve as a liaison to the hospital for social services needs
- Coordinate the transfer of authorized donors to centralized donor recovery units
- Participate in a call schedule rotation, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to provide 24/7 support
Requirements and Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from college with a major in an applicable natural science, or equivalent combination of experience/training
- Two (2) years of experience in the organ and tissue donation field or related healthcare field
- Experience working with families in grief and/or crisis situations
- Ability to work both independently and in a team setting, exercising initiative and sound judgment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences, Social Sciences, Pastoral Care, or related field
- Proficiency in written and spoken Spanish
- Knowledge of organ and/or tissue donation
- Working knowledge of navigating and charting in electronic medical records
- Familiarity with medical terminology
