Job DetailsGENERAL SUMMARY:Ensures all trucks, trailers and yard tractors are in working order and are compliant to federal standards.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrate gaining proficiency in the inspection, repair and diagnosis of - with some assistance: diesel engines, power train to include differentials, transmissions, clutches, drive shafts, wheel ends. Electrical systems including starters, alternators and lights. HVAC systems. Steering systems. Electronics to include ECM's, ECU's, sensors etc. Engine bolt on items such as turbos, fan clutches, cooling system etc. Brake systems including ABS & air disk brakes. Suspension systems (spring and air) including tire issues, and after treatment devices such as DPF and DOCPerform electrical system repairs, cooling system maintenance and complete vehicle diagnosisPerform preventive maintenance (PMs) on tractor and trailer equipment including routine technical repairs and completing repair orders.Perform maintenance repairs as required to maximize safety and reliability on all fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, lift-gates, and any company-owned equipment.Abide by all Company policies and safety rules and assist in maintaining a clean, safe work environment.Assist drivers with addressing outstanding vehicle issues.Maintains repairs for Class A trucks, trailers and yard tractors.Safely operates gauges, forklifts, shunt truck, torches, grinders, and various hand and power tools.Performs DOT inspections and compliancy. QualificationsKNOWLEDGE SKILLS and ABILITIES: Broad understanding of fleet maintenance policies, FMCSA standards and industry practices.Ability to work unsupervised, make decisions as neededEffective communicator and team playerHeavy diesel truck and trailer mechanic skillsWORK EXPERIENCE2+ years of Diesel Maintenance Repair experienceExperienced using trailer maintenance software preferredExperience working with air brake, hydraulic and electrical systems.WORKING CONDITIONSConducts some repairs in odd positions and/or confined or close spacesWork is performed under changing climatic conditions of extreme heat and coldWalking long distances; sitting or standing for long periods of timeBending, stooping, squatting, or kneeling on a repetitious basisFast-paced environmentExposure to noise and heightsDollar General is an equal opportunity employer.
