Job Description Geospatial Information and Scientific Programming Support/GIS Specialist U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance, Common Access Card (CAC). Provide cartographical expertise to support assigned GIS projects through application of professional knowledge and skill in cartographical practices, processes, and techniques. As a GIS Specialist with Cherokee Nation Systems Solutions (CNSS) you will act as an GIS Specialist and support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for the National Centers for Costal Ocean Science (NCCOS). Compensation & Benefits Estimated Starting Salary Range for Geospatial Information and Scientific Programming Support/GIS Specialist : $80-$90K Pay commensurate with experience. Geospatial Information And Scientific Programming Support/GIS Specialist Responsibilities Include • Stewarding of geospatial data (i.e., GIS layers), including biological, chemical, toxicological, geological, and physical observations, social science datasets, video data, oceanographic data, and complex model outputs. • Utilize Geographic Information System techniques to provide a better understanding of certain variables in a given geographic location. • Works with users to identify current operating procedures and clarify program objectives. • Outlines steps required for program development, including diagrams and charts which include writing program documentation and operations guidelines and providing technical guidance to lower-level analyst/programmers. • Resolves symbolic formulations, prepares flowcharts and block diagrams, and encodes resultant equations for processing by applying extensive knowledge of branches of science, engineering, or advanced mathematics, such as differential equations or numerical analysis, and understanding of capabilities and limitations of computers • Requires comprehensive knowledge of programming techniques, networked and centralized operating systems, and the capabilities of enterprise database products and development suites. Requires detailed and comprehensive knowledge of NOAA NCCOS’s applications and systems. • Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Geospatial Information and Scientific Programming Support/GIS Specialist Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested: • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance, Common Access Card (CAC). • Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in web design, computer science, or a related field is required. • Minimum of 3 to 4 years of experience in web design and development, preferably in a federal agency setting. • Converts scientific, engineering, and other technical problem formulations to formats that can be processed by computer. • Extracts data from GIS software and uses varying analysis methods to arrive at results. • Provide and recommend appropriate reactionary strategies in response to GIS analysis. • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. • Provides maps and data sets to clients to supplement analysis.
