The Histology Assistant plays a vital role in our laboratory, working alongside a talented team to prepare DNA extraction, Immunohistochemistry (IHC), and H&E staining samples. This position requires strong attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Main Responsibilities

• Maintain the upkeep of the laboratory, including inventory management, cleaning glassware, and equipment maintenance.
• Perform decontamination using appropriate materials and follow safety protocols.
• Conduct basic preventative maintenance on equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
• Dispose of non-biohazard and biohazard waste.
• Restock laboratory supplies and distribute them to work areas.
• Track samples using laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and excel spreadsheets.
• Scan H&E slides into the slide scanning system for pathologist review.
• File and store slides and FFPE tissue blocks.
• Assist with initial quality review of incoming specimens.
• Label FFPE blocks, slides, and DNA tubes following standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Enter orders from requisition forms into staining platform software.
• Prepare cases for microtomy, selecting control slides as needed.
• Record required temperatures and take corrective actions when necessary.
• Maintain histology equipment and corresponding documentation.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• Basic computer skills, including internet navigation and email usage.
• Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
• Authorization to work in the United Kingdom without sponsorship.
