Position Summary Under general supervision, operate, control and maintain turbine generator units and auxiliary equipment in hydroelectric power generating stations, to test, troubleshoot, install, repair and maintain electrical control systems and equipment in hydroelectric power generating operations. Operate the assigned hydroelectric facility in accordance with State and Federal laws. Understand guiding principles established in the FERC exemption or license. Responsibilities Operates controls and monitors hydroelectric generating units and auxiliary equipment. Tests equipment, troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions or failure of electrical or mechanical operational issues. Performs minor maintenance, adjustments and repairs on mechanical equipment including pumps and valves. Performs preventative maintenance to electrical and mechanical equipment such as motors, transformers, voltage regulators, generators, battery systems, air compressors, sump pumps, gates and valves. Maintains electrical drawings, equipment files, sketches, reports, logs and records. Takes daily readings and record data such as water level, temperature level, flow rate and other reports. Assists others in the maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment and systems. Assists with canal penstock inspections. Operates and maintains equipment, as well as installs nets and barriers for fish passage. Performs boat boom removal/installation. Performs housekeeping maintenance duties to keep facilities and grounds clean, safe, and accessible. Represents the company in a professional manor with vendors, State, Federal Agencies and Non-governmental agencies. Occasionally operates trucks, forklift, cranes, and power tools and other equipment. Performs other job-related duties as required . Qualifications Graduation from high school or GED required. Possession of an unrestricted Class 3 operator's license issued by the state of residence. Two (2) years of experience in hydroelectric operations or (2) years of experience working in hydro industry in areas of civil/electrical/mechanical trades, or other relevant experience. Experience with standard principles, methods, practices, techniques, tools and test equipment used to test, troubleshoot, repair and maintain electrical control equipment in hydroelectric power generating operations. Knowledge of safety, security and fire rules and procedures. Ability to work irregular hours, to support operations, and to be available on-call, 24/7, for emergencies.. Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties. Ability to lift and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to regularly work outside, in varying weather conditions.
