The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is seeking applicants for a Education Program Consultant II (Working Title: IDEA Consultant: Visually Impaired) for our Office of Exceptional Children / Sensory Support and Assistive Technology section. The Office of Exceptional Children / Sensory Support and Assistive Technology Section is responsible for leadership and direction to all educational entities concerned with academic support and instructional planning for students with disabilities specifically students identified as: Deaf, Hearing Impaired, DeafBlind, or Visually Impaired and assistive technology for all disability areas. The primary purpose of this position is to provide consultation and technical assistance on behalf of youth with a primary disabling condition of visual impairment, including blindness to various units, including the following: (a) local educational agencies (LEAs; e.g., personnel including superintendents, exceptional children administrators, principals, teachers, etc.) including residential and charter schools; (b) institutions of higher education; (c) State-operated Programs; (d) advocacy groups and parents; (e) other State agencies, such as the Departments of Health and Human Services, Labor, Correction, etc.; (f) professional organizations; and (g) collaborative work with intra-agency Divisions and committees, etc. The position may also serve as a member of the NC DeafBlind Project. This position is primarily responsible for supporting the State Board of Education (SBE) districts of northeast, southeast, north central, and sandhills but may support other SBE districts as needed or required. Additionally, this is a field-based position is subject to up to 50% travel or more depending on the need. Additional duties as assigned. Master's degree in the education field to which assigned from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of specifically related experience in public education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
