Job Summary We are seeking a reliable and skilled Custodian to join our evening shift team, working from 1:00pm-9:30pm, Monday through Friday, on a 12-month work schedule. As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our middle school building, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors. Key Responsibilities Vacuum and sweep designated areas, including classrooms, hallways, and common spaces Clean, sanitize, and disinfect bathrooms, including sinks, toilets, and showers Dust mop and wet mop assigned areas, including floors, stairs, and landings Clean and dust furniture, desks, computers, chalkboards, whiteboards, and other surfaces Remove and dispose of trash from all trash receptacles, including recycling and composting Clean and disinfect lunchroom tables and chairs Monitor hallways and lunchroom to identify cleaning needs or hazards, reporting any issues to your supervisor Lock doors, ensure security of the facility, and check for vandalism, reporting any problems or required repair work to your supervisor Replace light bulbs, paint, or repair facilities as required, including bathroom stalls, gym walls, desks, and equipment Shovel snow and spread ice melt on walkways and parking lots as required to ensure safety Set up furniture as needed for special events and secure the building after the event Perform major cleaning responsibilities, such as stripping and finishing floors and shampooing carpets, as necessary Essential Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred Interpersonal and basic communication skills Knowledge of basic cleaning methods and procedures, including cleaning equipment Operating knowledge of floor scrubber/water extractor, carpet shampooer, waxer, and hand tools (training provided) BOCES Safety Training Certificate required within 2 months after hire Must be able to pass a post-offer, pre-employment physical Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds Must be able to pass a Colorado and Federal Bureau of Investigation background check Preferred Qualifications 6 months to 1 year of custodial experience preferred Previous experience working in a school or educational setting Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety protocols Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Skills and Competencies Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities Basic knowledge of cleaning equipment and procedures Physical ability to lift, push, and pull heavy objects Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At 27J Schools, we are committed to supporting the growth and development of our employees.
