EXL Health is seeking a proactive, collaborative, and creative professional for a temporary Instructional Designer (ID) for a 6 month position.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in clinical care, auditing, or coding, along with the ability to translate complex operational concepts into effective, learner-centered training solutions. This role partners with a cross-functional, fully remote team of Trainers, Quality leaders, and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to design and develop advanced educational programs delivered through blended learning environments, including live facilitation, eLearning, video, technical resources, knowledge assessments, and hands-on application activities while also improving existing content to support learner performance, knowledge retention, and speed to proficiency.
💰 Hourly Salary Range: $56k – $89k

Responsibilities
• Design and develop engaging instructional training programs, including facilitator guides, job aids, training manuals, case studies, simulations, on-the-job training resources, and eLearning solutions that support practical application drills, effective knowledge acquisition, and speed to proficiency
• Partner closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), across Clinical, Audit, and Quality teams to gather content, validate accuracy, challenge assumptions, and translate complex operational processes into effective learner-centered training solutions
• Facilitate content review and approval processes with SMEs to ensure training materials reflect current operational workflows, client expectations, compliance requirements, and industry standards
• Incorporate updates from industry organizations and regulatory sources (such as Coding Clinic, AHIMA, CMS, NCCI, LCD/NCD guidance, and payer-specific requirements) into training content to maintain accuracy and compliance
• Use modern authoring platforms and multimedia resources to develop visual, audio, and interactive learning tools that improve learner engagement and retention
• Establish evaluation methods, feedback loops, and learner performance measures to continuously assess training effectiveness and redesign content based on learner needs and business outcomes
• Maintain accurate, current curriculum documentation, version control, training records, and shared content repositories across learning platforms and internal systems
• Ensure the instructional integrity, design consistency, and educational effectiveness of all training materials produced before release to operations or learners
• Stay current on instructional design best practices, healthcare education trends, compliance requirements, and new learning technologies to continuously improve training delivery and outcomes
Required Experience and Qualifications:
• Minimum of 3+ years of experience developing clinical training content, continuing education, or learning solutions for healthcare professionals, including nurses, coders, auditors, and/or physicians
• Experience designing content for healthcare industry topics, with preference for backgrounds supporting auditing, coding, payment integrity, revenue cycle, or clinical operations
• Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Organizational Development, Education, or a related field required
• Portfolio or professional work samples required during the interview process; samples may be from any industry or topic but must demonstrate strong instructional design and professional-quality development
Knowledge and Skills:
• Strong proficiency in instructional design authoring tools, including Articulate Storyline, Rise, and other eLearning development platforms
• Demonstrated ability to identify the most effective learning modalities and design engaging learning experiences, including case studies, simulations, practice exercises, knowledge checks, and other hands-on application activities
• Strong understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design methodology, and training evaluation practices to ensure learning effectiveness and knowledge retention
• Strong working knowledge of clinical terminology, with particular familiarity in auditing, coding, and payment integrity environments to ensure training content is accurate, relevant, and aligned to operational needs
