Position: Fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Hours: 5–10 hours per month Status: Independent Contractor / Fractional Location: Remote with occasional virtual meetings About Us We are a mission-driven, small nonprofit organization dedicated to exposing and ending animal cruelty and working toward a more compassionate world for all species. As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide strategic financial leadership and oversight. This role is ideal for a seasoned nonprofit finance professional who enjoys supporting executive leadership and boards through high-level financial guidance. Position Summary The Fractional CFO will serve as a strategic financial advisor to the Executive Director and leadership team, providing executive-level financial reporting, budget oversight, forecasting, and financial planning. This position focuses on high-level financial management rather than day-to-day bookkeeping or accounting. The anticipated commitment is approximately 5–10 hours per month. Key Responsibilities • Review monthly financial statements, dashboards, and key financial metrics • Prepare and present quarterly, executive-level financial reports and analysis for leadership and the Board of Directors • Provide oversight of organizational budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning • Monitor cash flow, reserves, and overall financial health • Advise leadership on financial strategy, sustainability, and organizational growth • Ensure appropriate financial controls, policies, and oversight are maintained • Collaborate with the Executive Director, finance staff, bookkeeper, and external CPA or auditors • Support annual budgeting and year-end financial planning • Identify financial risks and recommend practical solutions Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred) • Minimum of 10 years of senior financial leadership experience • Previous experience as a CFO, Controller, Finance Director, or Fractional CFO • Demonstrated experience working with nonprofit organizations • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, budgeting, grant funding, and financial reporting • Experience presenting financial information to executive leadership and Boards of Directors • Excellent analytical, communication, and strategic planning skills • Ability to work independently while serving as a trusted advisor Preferred Experience • Experience with nonprofit audits and Form 990 preparation • Familiarity with restricted and unrestricted funds and fund accounting • Experience supporting organizations with annual budgets of $2 to $3 million Compensation Competitive monthly retainer commensurate with experience, qualifications, and scope of services.
