We're now seeking an experienced and compassionate Paraeducator - Special Education Support Professional to join our team and make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students. About the Role As a Paraeducator - Special Education Support Professional, you'll play a vital role in supporting students with diverse needs to participate in their educational program. Under the direct supervision of a special education teacher, you'll assist in implementing Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals, providing personalized support, and fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. Key Responsibilities Assist in the implementation of the Norwalk Board of Education and administrative policies, rules, regulations, and directives. Follow teacher's oral or written directions to support students with their educational program, including IEP goals and Section 504 plans. Provide individualized support to students, including assistance with classwork, behavioral programs, and daily living skills. Assist the teacher with documentation, record-keeping, and data collection to monitor student progress. Support students during various activities, such as recess, breaks, emergency drills, assemblies, and field trips. Maintain confidentiality and respect for sensitive information. Interact positively with staff, students, parents, and visitors, promoting good public relations and a welcoming school environment. Participate in meetings and professional development activities to enhance your skills and knowledge. Essential Qualifications and Skills To excel in this role, you'll need: A High School diploma or equivalency and a ParaPro Certificate. A Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree in education or a related field is preferred. Two years of experience working with children or young adults in a school setting is preferred, with specific experience working with students with high management needs being an asset. Language proficiency in Spanish, French, or Haitian Creole is desirable. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with others. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to implement teacher directives and behavioral goals. A compassionate and patient demeanor, with a passion for supporting students with diverse needs. What We Offer As a member of our team, you'll enjoy: A competitive hourly salary ranging from $23.56 to $28.08. A 10-month work year (August to June), with a 27.5-hour workweek schedule determined by the Principal. Limited benefits available. Opportunities for professional growth and development.
