We're seeking a dedicated and compassionate Part-Time Private High School Science Tutor (C) to join our team in Houston, TX. About Our Organization SiSTEM Tutoring Agency LLC was founded to address the significant disparities in STEM education, particularly among Black, Hispanic, and female students. We believe that every student deserves access to quality education and mentorship, regardless of their background or socio-economic status. Our tutors not only provide academic support but also serve as role models and mentors, inspiring students to pursue their passions and interests in STEM fields. Job Summary As a Part-Time Private High School Science Tutor (C), you will work one-on-one with students to provide academic support in High School Science. Your primary responsibilities will include developing lesson plans, assessing student progress, and communicating with parents and teachers as needed. We're looking for tutors who are not only knowledgeable in science but also passionate about making a difference in students' lives. Key Responsibilities Provide one-on-one academic support to high school students in science, focusing on biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science Develop customized lesson plans to meet the unique needs and goals of each student Assess student progress and adjust instruction to ensure academic growth and success Communicate with parents and teachers to ensure students are meeting their academic goals Utilize technology, such as Google Sheets/Excel, Slack, and email, to communicate with students, parents, and teachers Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay up-to-date on best practices in science education Essential Qualifications Eligibility to work in the United States of America with a valid Social Security Number Commitment to tutoring for the duration of the assignment with a possibility of extension Ability to pass a background check Great interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt and relate to students from diverse backgrounds Selfless commitment to making a difference in students' lives, particularly those from underrepresented communities Own computer and technological savvy (email, texting, Slack, Google Sheets/Excel) Preferred Qualifications Previous teaching or tutoring experience, particularly in high school science Certification as a teacher with SBEC or other teacher state licensure certification Retired teacher with SBEC or other teacher state licensure certification Skilled in any grade level of science, with a focus on high school science Demonstrated history of working with students who are learning to speak English Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and socio-economic statuses Skills and Competencies Strong communication and interpersonal skills Organizational and time management skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Knowledge of scientific principles, including biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science Understanding of the scientific method, including hypothesis testing, experimental design, and data analysis Familiarity with standardized tests, such as the SAT Subject Tests, ACT, or AP exams in various science subjects Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At SiSTEM Tutoring Agency LLC, we're committed to supporting the professional growth and development of our tutors.
