PAYROLL SPECIALIST / STAFF ACCOUNTANT – NAC Mechanical & Electrical Services – Forest Lake, MN

Job title: PAYROLL SPECIALIST / STAFF ACCOUNTANT Company: NAC Mechanical & Electrical Services Job description: The Payroll Specialist / Staff Accountant will have responsibility for managing all aspects of NAC s weekly payroll processes. The position will also assist the accounting department with monthly and annual accounting processes and projects. The position reports to the Controller. RESPONSIBILITIES of the Payroll Specialist / Staff Accountant: • Monitor e-mail and voice mail to gather payroll information, review and accurately enter weekly payroll information from timesheets, gather and review electronic payroll submissions. • Verify accuracy of employees and hours per weekly payroll summary before turning payroll over to processing. • Prepare and make weekly payroll tax and withholding deposits, and employee benefit plan payments. Record payroll into the general ledger. • Track and record employee PTO hours. • Enter employee expense reimbursements. • Maintain accuracy of employee records in ERP system, earnings tables, tax tables, deductions, etc. Attach all relevant data. • Handle weekly payroll reporting for certified payroll and any payroll compliance reporting. • Prepare monthly union reports. • Onboard new employees, perform badging and background checks as needed. • Assure compliance with governmental agencies and wage and labor laws. • Assist with monthly and year-end financial accounting processes, special projects, working across all NAC divisions. • Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS of the Payroll Specialist / Staff Accountant: • Bachelor s degree in Accounting or related field preferred, or Associate Degree plus applicable experience; construction or service industry experience a plus. • Self-starter; can see what needs to be done, will take initiative and can work independently or work well with the team. • Demonstrate excellent communication skills; has ability to work independently or with a group. • Strong analytic skills, excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize responsibilities. • Proficient Microsoft office skills, particularly Outlook and Excel; familiar with ERP software.
