Job Summary The Procurement Category Specialist supports the development and execution of category specific procurement strategies to optimize spending, strengthen supplier partnerships, and enhance the delivery of goods and services. This role assists in managing key spend categories by coordinating supplier activities, performing spend analysis, and supporting sourcing initiatives that align with organizational goals. Qualifications Education Required • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or a related field Licenses/Certifications Required • None Work Experience Required • 3+ years of experience in procurement, category coordination, vendor management, or sourcing. Preferred Qualifications • Certification in procurement or supply chain (e.g., CPSM, CSCP). • Analytical experience supporting supplier evaluation and spend reporting. • Experience with spend analysis and category management. • Familiarity with e-procurement platforms and tools. • Healthcare industry experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • This role involves interaction and collaboration with other departments and requires excellent judgment and interpersonal skills. • Ability to balance analytical rigor with practical execution while influencing outcomes without formal authority. • Proficiency in procurement and ERP platforms such as Workday or similar systems, including requisitioning, purchase orders, supplier records, and contract documentation. • Ability to navigate procurement workflows, approval structures, and compliance requirements within enterprise systems. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret spend data, identify trends, assess cost drivers, and evaluate supplier performance. • Experience supporting category-level spend analysis, variance analysis, and total cost of ownership (TCO) considerations. • Ability to translate data and insights into actionable category strategies and sourcing recommendations. • Ability to negotiate and develop multi-step processes to drive desired outcomes. • Working knowledge of procurement best practices, sourcing methodologies, and category management principles. • Understanding of contract structures, pricing models, and supplier relationship management. • Familiarity with indirect spend categories such as SaaS solutions within Marketing, IT, Finance, Professional Services, or other business categories. • Experience with category-driver discovery, leveraging through market research. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings, recommendations, and analyses clearly and professionally. • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and suppliers. • Ability to influence decisions, manage expectations, and navigate competing priorities across departments. • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously. • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with Procurement Analysts, Category Managers, and business partners. • Ability to work in fast-paced environments. • Sound judgment in handling sensitive supplier, pricing, and contractual information. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Develop and implement category-level procurement strategies focused on cost efficiency, service quality, and risk mitigation across assigned indirect spend areas. • Support the evaluation, selection, and ongoing management of suppliers within assigned categories, including performance monitoring and issue resolution. • Manage contract-related activities, including supporting negotiations, renewals, amendments, and compliance tracking. • Conduct spend analysis and supplier reviews to identify trends, savings opportunities, consolidation opportunities, and process improvements. • Execute sourcing initiatives such as RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs, including supplier identification, data collection, and evaluation of responses cross functionally. • Partner with internal stakeholders (Operations, Clinical, Finance, IT, Marketing, and Professional Services) to align category strategies with business needs and operational priorities. • Ensure timely and accurate execution of category-related procurement transactions in accordance with procurement policies and approval requirements. • Maintain complete and accurate category documentation, sourcing files, supplier records, and compliance materials. • Collaborate closely with the Procurement Analyst to leverage analytics, validate savings, and support category strategy execution.
