About the position Responsibilities • Provide daily leadership and support for elementary literacy instruction through coaching and collaboration with teachers. • Support teachers in implementing literacy instruction using coaching strategies, including modeling and co-teaching. • Assist teachers in using data to identify student needs and inform instruction. • Participate in collaborative planning to support the HCPS Instructional Model and best practices in literacy instruction. • Assist teachers with selecting instructional materials that meet the needs of all students. • Collaborate with school leadership to identify literacy needs and develop school literacy goals. • Design professional learning experiences for teachers that support literacy instruction and align with school goals. • Oversee and coordinate literacy intervention as outlined in the Virginia Literacy Act. • Communicate with staff to support learning for all students. • Collaborate with division literacy coaches and attend monthly literacy team meetings. • Assist with creating family engagement events that promote literacy. • Maintain an inventory of reading and writing materials and oversee organization in a bookroom. • Stay updated on current educational trends and best practices related to literacy instruction. • Deliver small group instruction as needed. • Support the implementation of the HCPS LifeReady Literacy Plan. Requirements • Must hold a current, active teaching license issued by the Virginia Department of Education. • Master's degree preferred. • Reading Specialist endorsement (or proof of enrollment in a Reading Specialist program) is required. • A minimum of three years of teaching experience required. • Experience in grades K through 5 is preferred. Nice-to-haves • Experience with instructional coaching and adult learning principles. • Familiarity with the Virginia Literacy Act and related interventions. • Knowledge of diverse instructional strategies for literacy.
