KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and programs Conduct routine onsite inspections of manufacturing and distribution warehouse operations to identify hazards and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements Support incident investigations and root cause analyses; recommend corrective and preventive actions and verify effectiveness Coordinate responses to regulatory agencies on incident investigations, inquiries, findings and/or complaint allegations Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA standards, including but not limited to: Hazard Communication (HazCom) Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Emergency Action Plans Fire Prevention Forklift/Powered Industrial Truck Safety Lockout/Tagout (where applicable) Bloodborne Pathogens (where applicable) Maintain OSHA injury and illness records, including OSHA 300 logs Support maintenance of company’s Safety Data Sheet Management Program and ensure employee access to SDS information Support compliance with applicable U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations governing the shipment of hazardous materials Support shipping operations involving hazardous materials to ensure proper classification, packaging, marking, labeling, and documentation Support investigations and corrective actions related to transportation incidents or compliance concerns Research and analyze applicable laws and regulations (OSHA, OSHA State Plans, DOT, IATA, IMO and EPA); develop, implement and monitor policies and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local requirements Support and assist with hazardous shipping compliance by ensuring adherence to applicable DOT, IATA, and IMO regulations Serve as a source for employees and management regarding EHS compliance and best practices Author and distribute the company's quarterly Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) newsletter Serve as an EHS resource for the Corporate Brand Development Group and other business units by researching regulatory requirements and providing technical guidance on environmental, health, and safety matters Develop and deliver employee environmental, health, and safety (EHS) awareness and training programs to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and international regulations, including OSHA, OSHA State Plans (e.g., Cal/OSHA), DOT, IATA, IMO, and EPA requirements Participate in special projects and perform other duties as required JOB COMPLEXITY: Work on problems of moderate scope and impact where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Analyze possible solutions using standard procedures to solve straightforward problems. Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practice determining appropriate action. Build productive internal/external working relationships. SUPERVISION: Receive a minimal level of instruction on day-to-day work, and instruction and guidance on new projects or assignments. WORK EXPERIENCE: 2-5 years of EHS experience in warehousing, distribution, manufacturing, medical device, pharmaceutical, or related industries Experience with California OSHA (Cal/OSHA) regulations and compliance programs Experience with SDS programs, OSHA compliance activities, and hazardous materials regulations Experience with DOT hazardous materials shipping requirements preferred PREFERRED EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field preferred Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered Preferred certifications: Associate Safety Professional (ASP), OSHA 30-Hour General Industry, and/or DOT Hazardous Materials Transportation Training KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and COMPETENCIES: Strong inspection, auditing, incident investigation, and root cause analysis skills Excellent training, and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently Strong decision-making and critical thinking abilities Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills when interacting with senior management and internal and external stakeholders Ability to standardize and leverage information and best practices to support multiple sites and business initiatives Conduct research and gather information as needed to support decision-making Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, and experienced with project management methodologies and tools commonly used in the medical device or pharmaceutical industries SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance, OSHA State Plans (including Cal/OSHA requirements), or experience in an environmental health and safety (EHS) role. Working knowledge of hazardous shipping regulations related to Department of Transportation (DOT), International Air Transport Association (IATA), and International Maritime Organization (IMO) Internal auditing experience (OSHA, OSHA State Plans [Cal/OSHA required], EPA, DOT, and IATA) TRAVEL / PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Travel - typically 15% to 20% annually PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: Typically, to advance to a new job level, TSMs must demonstrate professional behavior and should consistently be at the high-end of meets expectations or consistently exceed expectations. The posted range for this position is $56,604 to $88,443 which is the expected starting base salary range for an employee who is new to the role to fully proficient in the role. Many factors go into determining employee pay within the posted range including prior experience, current skills, location/labor market, internal equity, etc. This position is eligible for a bonus not reflected in the posted range.
