Day in the Life of a Certifying Scientist Certify toxicology results from LC-MS/MS analysis by evaluating chromatographic data, retention times, ion ratios, and quantitation curves. Review quality control (QC) and calibration performance for each analytical batch, documenting any discrepancies and initiating corrective action if necessary. Interpret complex drug testing profiles based on known pharmacokinetics and metabolism, and flag potential inconsistencies or issues. Ensure proper documentation of all reviews, certifying events, and any communications in accordance with lab SOPs and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with lab personnel and clinical providers as needed via secure communication channels (email, LIS, video conferencing). Support audit readiness by ensuring data integrity, traceability, and proper documentation practices. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and CLIA regulations at all times. Foster a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement among laboratory staff Provide on-site laboratory coverage as needed, with up to 25% travel required. Education and Experience requirements Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Biochemistry, Medical Technology, or related scientific field Minimum 2 years of experience operating LC-MS/MS systems in a toxicology or clinical lab Familiarity with common LC-MS platforms (e.g., Sciex, Shimadzu, Thermo) and associated software Strong understanding of drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics, and toxicological principles. Excellent attention to detail and data integrity practices Knowledge of CLIA, CAP, and HIPAA regulations Travel Remote but required to travel ~25%.
