Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Upstream USA is a national, nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to ensuring equitable, patient-centered contraceptive care. The Clinical Strategy Advisor will support the advancement of Upstream’s digital strategy initiatives, serving as a clinical subject matter expert and collaborating with various teams to ensure high-quality contraceptive care.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a subject matter expert to Upstream teams responsible for engaging with Upstream partner agencies. Provide consultation to agencies, support design of contraceptive care and technical assistance packages
- Establish trust and rapport with health system governance leaders in an effort to gain positive momentum and investment from key partners for implementing same-day contraceptive care services within various healthcare settings
- Stay up to date and current on updates and changes related to contraceptive care
- Assess, recommend, and identify service delivery improvements related to contraceptive care, including: Contraceptive protocols, policies, procedures, and consent forms
- Working with Agency direct care staff to implement new workflows
- Identify and recommend other technical assistance as needed
- Assess defined measures for quality improvement and partnering with site leadership to test additional improvement opportunities, as needed
- Conduct ongoing checkpoints with Practice Transformation Team members to maintain contraceptive care-specific practice changes with Upstream health centers based on their specific needs and work plan
- Deliver Upstream's clinical Core trainings, IUD practicum sessions, and IPPC trainings (as needed)
- Stay up to date and current on updates and changes related to contraceptive care
- Mentor and support other Clinical Advisors who may deliver training by assisting with their training onboarding, and providing feedback and guidance
- Collaborate with the Upstream Training Design team to design, develop, and update training curricula and content
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert on clinical training innovation and make recommendations to ensure Upstream's clinical training is optimally effective and efficient
- Collaborate with the Upstream Training team to inform training content to meet the needs of agencies
- Develop and maintain implementation support from state-recognized medical societies and key partners
- Serve as the clinical subject matter expert for all digital products. Define clinical protocols and ensure all digital workflows (telehealth, AI-driven navigation, and education) align with the highest medical standards and Upstream’s mission
- Partner with product and engineering teams to design, build, and iterate on digital health tools. Translate clinical requirements into product features that improve patient outcomes and experience
- Manage clinical relationships with current and future telehealth partners (e.g., Pandia Health). Ensure seamless clinical handoffs between digital discovery, virtual consultations, and in-person clinical care
- Lead the development and review of all clinical content, including medical educational materials, AI training datasets for the FreeBC navigator, and clinician-led video content
- Stay at the forefront of digital health trends and reproductive health research. Use data-driven insights to evaluate the clinical impact of digital initiatives and identify opportunities for new product development
- Serve as subject matter expert internally and externally for Upstream Digital. Includes marketing/social messaging, client and board presentations and internal coordination, as needed, to leverage other Upstream clinical experts
- Serving as the lead clinician on special projects
- Lead on the development of clinical content for Upstream live Training and e-learning modules
- Provide input on practice transformation/technical assistance strategies
- Acts as a clinical leader for Upstream, demonstrating forward-thinking, best practices, and expertise in clinical evidence and policy
- Assists in the creation of onboarding plans for new Clinical Advisors, and provides orientation on key topics to those new employees during the onboarding period
- Collaborates with Technical Assistance Design leadership on new strategies and projects that optimize clinical skill set
- Additional duties as assigned
Skills
- Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse midwife, Physician Assistant, or MD in clinical practice providing contraceptive care
- The ideal candidate is a clinician who thrives at the intersection of patient care and technology. You have experience in direct clinical service—specifically in reproductive health—but you also speak the language of product managers and engineers. You are passionate about telehealth, digital health delivery, and using technology to scale equitable access to contraception
- Active clinical license (NP, PA, CNM, or MD/DO) with a focus on women's health, reproductive health, or primary care
- Deep knowledge of contraceptive methods, patient-centered counseling, and the barriers to reproductive healthcare
- Experience in digital health delivery, telehealth, or health-tech product development. You have a proven track record of successfully launching or managing digital clinical programs
- Knowledge of and experience in best practices to support contraceptive care within community and/or hospital settings
- Experience with reproductive justice and gender inclusion framework for sexual and reproductive health
- Shown knowledge of challenges in working in healthcare and reproductive health
- Ability to balance clinical rigor with the agility required in a fast-paced digital innovation environment
- Ability to analyze complex data and protocols in a manner that is clear and concise
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; communicates articulately and efficiently under all circumstances; establishes rapport quickly with all levels of staff; ability to bridge the gap between clinical, technical, and non-technical stakeholders

- Experience working in a variety of health care environments (e.g. private practice, public health, federally qualified health centers, and community clinics)
