The Full Stack Engineer will design, develop, and maintain web applications for the Department of Veterans Affairs, collaborating in an Agile environment to create scalable and user-centered solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain full stack web applications and APIs
- Build responsive, accessible, and reusable user interface components using modern front-end frameworks
- Develop and maintain secure backend services, business logic, and RESTful APIs
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business and user requirements into technical solutions
- Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical design sessions
- Optimize application performance, scalability, reliability, and security
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and DevSecOps best practices
- Troubleshoot production issues and implement sustainable solutions
- Ensure applications comply with federal accessibility, security, and quality standards
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
- Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend improvements to development processes and application architecture
Skills
- 4+ years of experience in full stack development
- Strong experience with JavaScript, React, Ruby on Rails, and REST APIs
- Familiarity with modern CI/CD practices and Git workflows
- Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
- Understanding of accessibility best practices and web standards (WCAG, Section 508)
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in Agile environments
- Must be a US Citizen and able to work domestically
- Must be able to attain low-level security clearance
- Bachelor's degree
- Prior experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs or federal agencies
- Familiarity with JSON Schema Form libraries (e.g., react-jsonschema-form)
- Knowledge of VA.gov architecture and building forms on VA.gov
- Experience with automated testing and 508 scanning tools (e.g., Axe, pa11y)
