Horizontal Talent is seeking an SEO/AEO Consultant to support multiple client engagements and enhance search visibility through various optimization strategies. The role involves leading search strategies, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and utilizing advanced tools to drive measurable results.
Responsibilities
- Lead search strategy across SEO, AEO, and AI search optimization to support full-funnel growth
- Develop approaches for AI Overviews, featured snippets, People Also Ask results, zero-click experiences, and conversational search queries
- Strengthen brand authority through entity-based optimization and knowledge graph strategies
- Partner with content and digital teams to apply E-E-A-T best practices across search initiatives
- Optimize content and technical elements for generative search environments and LLM discovery platforms
- Build structured data and schema recommendations to improve visibility in rich results and AI summaries
- Monitor search and AI trends, then adjust strategies to stay ahead of algorithm changes and market shifts
- Perform technical, content, competitive, local, and app SEO audits and present actionable insights
- Create functional SEO specifications and work with developers through implementation, QA, and UAT
- Conduct keyword, topic cluster, and entity research to guide scalable content planning
- Identify opportunities for content optimization, consolidation, pruning, and authority building
- Collaborate with paid media, analytics, UX, product, and development teams to improve search performance
- Present recommendations and performance insights to internal teams and client stakeholders
- Develop measurement and reporting approaches that track SEO, AEO, zero-click performance, and AI search visibility
- Use automation tools, APIs, AI workflows, and advanced spreadsheet or scripting skills to improve efficiency
- Manage deliverables and timelines in project management systems while balancing priorities across multiple accounts
Skills
- 3+ years of experience supporting SEO for enterprise or large-scale brands
- Strong hands-on experience with Google Search Console and SEMrush
- Practical experience with AEO and AI-driven search optimization
- Solid understanding of structured data, schema implementation, entity optimization, and knowledge graph strategy
- Knowledge of E-E-A-T principles and authority-building tactics
- Ability to analyze data and turn insights into clear, business-focused recommendations
- Experience working in a client-facing or agency environment with cross-functional teams
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present to stakeholders at different levels
- Comfort managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a contractor role
- Familiarity with automation tools, APIs, and AI-powered workflows
- Experience with additional SEO platforms such as Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, Lumar, Yext, Lighthouse, and Google Business Profile
- Background in developing SEO recommendations for technical enhancements and content strategy
- Experience supporting enterprise brands in an agency setting
- Working knowledge of reporting and visualization tools for performance communication
- Ability to collaborate effectively across marketing, analytics, UX, product, and development teams
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Advertising, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
