The Senior Grants Financial Specialist oversees the financial management and compliance of complex grants, ensuring alignment with donor regulations and organizational policies while providing critical oversight and support to the finance team.
Responsibilities

- Act as an advocate to raise the awareness of the needs of children. Understands Christ’s mandate to protect children. Commits to and prioritizes child protection considerations in all decision-making, tasks and activities across the ministry. Abides by all behavioral expectations in Compassion’s Statement of Commitment to Child Protection and Code of Conduct. Reports any concerns of abuse, neglect or exploitation of children through Compassion’s internal reporting process and appropriately supports responses to incidents if they occur
- Develop budgets and budget narrative packages for government and multilateral donor-funded projects in collaboration with the core team both at CI and country offices, ensuring accurate and realistic financial planning and resource allocation. Negotiate the program resources with donor and ensure all financial aspect in the agreement are reasonable and favors Compassion
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to institutional and multilateral donors, as well as stakeholders. Develops and maintains financial reporting systems to track grant expenditures and ensure compliance with donor-specific requirements, as well as preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for donor-funded projects
- Oversee financial aspects of institutional grants, ensuring compliance with funding agencies and organizational policies, while liaising with field team members to ensure proper recording of financial transactions related to grants. Prepares and reviews financial reports, budgets vs actuals, expenditures projcetion that aligns with the approved detailed implementation plan, and monitors grant spending to ensure alignment with approved budgets and objectives
- Collaborate with global program and national offices to develop budget forecasts and monitor financial performance against projections, providing financial analysis and recommendations to support strategic decision-making
- Collaborate with the compliance specialist to administer vendor screening, ensuring compliance with U.S./EU excluded parties' lists. Coordinating with external auditors during donor audits and assist in the preparation of audit schedules and documentation and serves as a point of contact for financial aspects of procurement audits point of contact for the Single Audit. Ensure adherence to U.S. and other government regulations, such as CFR, FAR, and OMB Circulars, as well as multilateral donor policies and procedures
- Serve as a subject matter expert in partnerships with key stakeholders ensuring effective financial management of government and institutional funded projects and collaborates within the core grants team to ensure seamless coordination and integration of financial and programmatic activities
- Monitor donor-funded projects to identify and address any financial discrepancies or compliance issues and coordinates with Controller, Compliance Specialist, and field accounting staff to ensure that procured goods are tracked, documented, utilized, and dispositioned at the end of grants according to donor requirements and organizational policies. Collaborates with the compliance team to enhance procurement-related financial management
- Develop and implement financial management tools and resources to enhance the capacity of the finance team, ensuring compliance and efficiency in managing donor-funded projects. Provide training and support to program staff on financial management for institutional, government, and multilateral donor grants requirements
- Train, coach, and provide expertise to oversee the work of other professionals and support staff in related disciplines
