Summary Under the direction of the Controller, the Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the Finance Department in performing day-to-day accounting functions to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for the insurance agency. The Staff Accountant will assist in the monthly close process, account reconciliations, and general ledger activities. This position plays a key role in maintaining the financial integrity of the company and supporting the Controller. Must reside in the Southeastern region of the United States. Essential Functions • Record and process journal entries, including recurring and one-time entries • Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations • Reconcile bank accounts daily • Assist with month-end and year-end close activities • Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements both GAAP and Statutory • Prepare documentation for external audits • Analyze financial data and investigate variances as directed • Support other accounting projects and initiatives as assigned Job Requirements, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred • Basic understanding of GAAP principles • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills is critical in this role • Experience working with external auditors is preferred • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines • Good organizational and communication skills • Capable of working independently and collaboratively with a team • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion • Occasional travel to home office in Macon, Georgia Compensation • Commensurate with experience • Performance based incentives Benefits Package • 401(k) company match up to 6% eligible upon hire • Medical, dental & vision, including company paid Life insurance and long-term disability • Wellness program • Health care flexible spending accounts • Paid time off • Paid & unpaid sick leave where applicable, as well as short-term disability • Parental & family leave; military leave & pay • Employee Referral Incentive • Career development & Continuing Education Assistance Physical Conditions/Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
