Job Summary This position is ideal for a licensed CPA or EA who can work independently, handle complex tax returns with minimal training, and collaborate directly with the firm owner. The role is technical in nature and focused on technical execution and collaboration rather than management or business development. You will be responsible for preparing and reviewing assigned returns, exercising professional judgment, and signing filings where appropriate. This is a part-time, hourly role to start, with flexible scheduling and remote work available. Hours per week will fluctuate depending on workload and tax season. Key Responsibilities • Independently prepare and review federal and California tax returns • Handle complex returns across individuals, trusts, and business entities (S Corporations, C Corporations, and partnerships) • Conduct tax research using current laws and regulations to ensure compliance and identify potential tax-saving opportunities • Utilize tax and accounting software, including Lacerte and QuickBooks, for return preparation and related account analysis as needed • Exercise professional judgment on assigned returns and sign filings where appropriate • Collaborate directly with the firm owner on complex, technical, or judgment-based matters • Manage assigned workload efficiently within established systems and workflows • Consistently meet filing deadlines with minimal supervision Required Experience & Qualifications • Active CPA or EA license • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field • Minimum of 5 years of experience in public accounting or a tax-focused firm • Strong familiarity with California tax law and compliance requirements • Experience preparing and reviewing complex individual, business, partnership, and fiduciary tax returns • Proficiency with Lacerte and Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently in a remote environment • Clear communication skills and sound professional judgment • Reliable, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven We offer a flexible, remote work environment that values experience, professional judgment, and efficiency.
