The Commissioning Training Specialist is responsible for developing and delivering technical training programs to ensure a competent workforce for BESS commissioning activities, supporting project success and safety performance.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain comprehensive training curricula, modules, and materials for all aspects of BESS commissioning, including safety protocols, system energization, AEROS™ L1/L2 controller configuration, network setup, performance testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and handover processes
- Create engaging training resources such as presentations, manuals, videos, simulations, hands-on labs, checklists, and e-learning modules
- Incorporate real project lessons learned, technical updates, and evolving best practices into training content
- Deliver classroom, virtual, and field-based training sessions for new hires, current teams, and subcontractors
- Lead practical, hands-on training at sites or centralized facilities covering critical activities like point-to-point testing, control logic verification, and emergency response
- Conduct train-the-trainer programs to build internal training capacity within the commissioning organization
- Manage structured onboarding programs for new commissioning personnel
- Develop and administer competency assessments, skill evaluations, and field performance reviews
- Track training records, certifications, and individual development plans
- Partner closely with Commissioning Managers, AEROS Manager, EHS Manager, Network Specialists, and engineering teams to ensure training remains current and relevant
- Gather feedback from field teams and leadership to refine programs and address performance gaps
- Support the creation and updating of standardized commissioning procedures and job aids
- Embed rigorous safety training (OSHA, NFPA 855, LOTO, arc flash, etc.) into all programs in coordination with the EHS Manager
- Promote a strong safety-first culture through all training activities
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Instructional Design, Adult Education, or a related technical field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in BESS, renewable energy, or industrial commissioning/field operations
- Deep technical expertise in BESS systems, AEROS™ EMS/controls, industrial networking, and commissioning processes
- Strong instructional design, presentation, and facilitation skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
- Proficiency with learning management systems (LMS), e-learning authoring tools, and Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities across technical and field teams
- Willingness to travel 30-50% for onsite training and project support
- Valid driver's license and ability to pass background checks
- Passion for mentoring and developing others in a high-growth industry
- 2+ years of experience designing and delivering technical training programs
