The Veterans Disability Legal Strategist is a licensed attorney responsible for developing legal strategy for Veterans Disability appeals, reviewing various records to determine the strongest legal strategy for each case.
Responsibilities
- Review VA Rating Decisions, Board decisions, C&P examinations, medical records, military records, and claims files
- Develop the strongest legal strategy for Veterans Disability appeals
- Identify evidentiary strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities to strengthen claims
- Determine the appropriate legal theories, appeal options, and recommended next steps
- Apply VA statutes, regulations, case law, and firm strategy standards consistently across a high volume of cases
- Make independent legal decisions quickly while maintaining exceptional quality and accuracy
- Document legal strategy clearly and accurately within the firm’s case management system
- Collaborate with drafting attorneys and operations to ensure strategic recommendations are executed effectively
- Analyze complex medical and military evidence
- Evaluate legal issues affecting entitlement to VA disability benefits
- Identify missing evidence and recommend additional development
- Stay current on changes in VA law, regulations, and legal precedent
- Exercise sound legal judgment while making independent strategic decisions
- Maintain exceptional attention to detail across every case
- Meet productivity expectations while maintaining high-quality legal analysis
- Consistently make accurate, well-reasoned strategic decisions
- Contribute to continuous improvement of firm strategy standards and processes
Skills
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- Strong legal analysis, critical thinking, and issue-spotting skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to independently manage a high-volume workload
- Excellent written communication and documentation skills
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to make sound legal decisions efficiently under production expectations
- Experience with Veterans Disability law, administrative law, or appellate practice
- Experience reviewing medical records and complex evidentiary files
- Experience working in a high-volume legal practice
- Familiarity with VA regulations, disability ratings, and appeals
- Military service or familiarity with military culture
