Job Overview: Leading Communications Strategy and Team

The Senior Communications Director will report directly to the Founder and CEO of Vote Mama and work closely with the leadership team to drive the organization's communications strategy and goals. This is a high-visibility role that requires exceptional strategic thinking, political savvy, and project management skills. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the U.S. political landscape, a passion for grassroots organizing, and a commitment to progressive policy change.

Key Responsibilities: Strategy, Leadership, and Execution

• Strategy Development:
  • Lead the execution of Vote Mama's overarching communications strategy, expanding the organization's impact year after year.
  • Collaborate closely with the leadership team to achieve Vote Mama's mission and annual goals.
  • Serve as a thought partner to the Founder and CEO, generating and exploring innovative ideas to propel the organization forward.
• Organizational Leadership:
  • Work closely with leadership and the operations team to recruit and help onboard a complete communications department.
  • Lead a diverse team across digital communications, press, social media, email campaigns, and web development.
  • Supervise the media relations manager and digital communications consultants to build and lead a fully in-house communications team.
• Strategy Execution:
  • Oversee press outreach, media coverage, branding strategy, and influencer engagement to amplify Vote Mama's visibility.
  • Manage and strengthen relationships with influencers, partners, and key stakeholders.
  • Establish metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of communications and social initiatives.
  • Work closely with the Founder & CEO to develop and promote thought leadership content.
• Thought Leadership and Brand Building:
  • Develop and implement strategies to position Vote Mama and its Founder and CEO as thought leaders in equitable family policies, democratic systems reform, and the economic impact of inclusive representation.
  • Create and amplify high-quality multimedia content to drive visibility and engagement.
  • Leverage speaking engagements, partnerships, and media appearances to enhance organizational reach and credibility.

Essential Qualifications: Experience, Skills, and Expertise

To succeed in this role, you will need:

• 8+ years of experience in communications strategy, public relations, or political communications, including supervisory roles.
• Proven ability to curate and produce multimedia content, including video editing and social media storytelling.
• Proven expertise in media relations, including securing press coverage and managing crisis communications.
• Experience managing digital communications platforms, including social media management and email programs.
• Strong understanding of the U.S. political landscape and campaign communications.
• Strategic thinker with exceptional project management skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to establish and cultivate relationships with influencers, partners, and stakeholders.
• Previous experience working in political organizations, campaigns, or related advocacy groups.
• Demonstrated success in managing large-scale, multi-channel campaigns.
• Commitment to Vote Mama's goals and theory of change, passion for grassroots organizing, and commitment to progressive policy change.

Preferred Qualifications: Advanced Education and Specialized Skills
