About the position
KBR is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer to lead the rapid migration of physical infrastructure to AWS cloud environments. In this role, you will drive large-scale “lift and shift” initiatives, moving on-premises systems and workloads to the cloud quickly and efficiently. After initial migration, you will architect and implement strategies to modernize these workloads over time, leveraging cloud-native services and automation to enhance scalability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Responsibilities
• Lead rapid “lift and shift” migrations of physical and legacy infrastructure to AWS, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
• Develop and execute migration plans, including assessment, planning, and implementation of cloud migration strategies.
• Collaborate with solution architects and design teams to ensure secure, scalable, and compliant AWS cloud solutions.
• After migration, drive modernization efforts by refactoring, rearchitecting, and automating workloads to take advantage of AWS cloud-native services.
• Develop and maintain tools for provisioning, monitoring, auditing, and de-provisioning AWS infrastructure using Python, Ansible, and other automation tools.
• Manage CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure technologies using industry-standard tools like Jenkins and GitLab Runners.
• Incorporate FinOps principles into AWS cloud strategies, ensuring cost optimization and operational efficiency.
• Mentor and lead junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
Requirements
• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• 10+ years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, or systems administration, with a strong focus on AWS technologies.
• Proven experience leading “lift and shift” migrations and subsequent modernization of workloads in AWS.
• In-depth knowledge of AWS Security, Network Controls, and FedRAMP compliance requirements.
• Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform or AWS CDK.
• Proficiency in configuration management tools, such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
• Expertise in scripting languages such as Python, Bash/Shell, PowerShell for infrastructure automation.
• AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Associate (required).
• At least one AWS Specialty or Professional certification (required), such as: AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional AWS Certified Security – Specialty AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty AWS Certified Database – Specialty
• Three years of continuous U.S. residency for government security credential.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation for government facility access.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen
Nice-to-haves
• Multiple AWS Specialty or Professional certifications (preferred), such as those listed above.
• Experience engineering and deploying public sector solutions.
• Expertise with AWS services such as S3, CloudFront, EKS, Lambda, Aurora Serverless DB, and AWS Batch.
• Experience incorporating FinOps principles into AWS cloud strategies.
