About the Role The Senior Payroll Specialist is responsible for overseeing and managing the organization’s end-to-end payroll process. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, processes multi-state payroll, audits records for accuracy, and works closely with HR and Finance departments to support payroll operations and reporting. The Senior Payroll Specialist serves as a subject matter expert and mentor for junior payroll staff. Key Responsibilities Process weekly or bi-weekly payrolls for multiple entities or locations. Audit and reconcile payroll data, including hours worked, tax withholdings, and benefit deductions. Maintain payroll records in accordance with company policies and government regulations. Resolve payroll discrepancies and respond to employee inquiries in a timely and professional manner. Prepare and submit payroll reports for internal and external stakeholders. Assist with year-end activities, including W-2 processing and annual reconciliations. Ensure compliance with labor laws, tax regulations, and internal controls. Partner with HR and Finance teams for payroll-related audits and reporting. Train and support junior payroll staff; review their work for accuracy and completeness. Identify opportunities to streamline and improve payroll processes and systems. Qualifications Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred or 4+ years of experience in payroll processing, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead role. Proficiency in payroll systems such as Sage 300 CRE & UKG. Proficiency in Crystal Reports Strong knowledge of payroll best practices, tax laws, and wage/hour regulations. Excellent organizational and time management skills. High attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
