About the Department of Theatre and Dance The Department of Theatre and Dance at FAU is a hub of artistic activity, producing seven shows per year during the academic year and two through the Summer Repertory Theatre Program. With a strong emphasis on both theoretical and practical aspects of theatre and dance, the department offers seven majors and two minors at the B.A., B.F.A., and M.F.A. levels. The Dance program, in particular, is designed to be inclusive and accessible, catering to students with varying levels of experience and background. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the Dance program, contributing to its growth and excellence. Position Summary We are seeking a talented and experienced dance professional to join our faculty as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Dance. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of dance, both as an art form and as a field of study. They will be capable of teaching a range of dance courses, from classical to contemporary styles, and will be committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the department's mission through teaching, mentorship, and creative or scholarly research. Key Responsibilities Teach a variety of dance courses, including but not limited to Ballet, Jazz, and Modern, at all levels. Mentor and advise Dance minors, providing guidance and support in their academic and artistic pursuits. Contribute to the growth and development of the Dance program through innovative curriculum design and implementation. Engage in creative or scholarly research, with opportunities for choreography, performance, and publication. Collaborate with colleagues across the department to advance the goals of the Theatre and Dance programs. Participate in departmental service, including committee work and recruitment efforts. Represent the university and department through various professional and community engagements. Qualifications and Requirements Minimum Qualifications A terminal degree in Theatre or a related field from an accredited institution. A minimum of four semesters of experience teaching dance at the college or university level. Professional experience as a dancer and choreographer. Evidence of effective communication and collaboration skills. A commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment that supports diverse student populations. Preferred Qualifications Experience in multiple dance styles, including but not limited to musical theatre, tap, hip hop, street styles, West African dances, and Latin dances. A record of successful teaching, with a clear and effective teaching philosophy. Evidence of ongoing creative or scholarly activity, with a focus on innovative and impactful work. Experience with curriculum development and program growth. Skills and Competencies The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of artistic talent, academic rigor, and interpersonal skills.
