As a Tractor Yard Switcher I, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient and safe transport of trailers within our trailer yard, supporting the inbound unloading and outbound loading warehouse operations. Job Overview The Tractor Yard Switcher I is responsible for transporting full and empty trailers between the docks and designated drop parking locations in the trailer yard, performing inspections of trailers for mechanical maintenance needs, and communicating any discovered issues to warehouse management and/or fleet maintenance. This is a hands-on role that requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities: Transport full and empty trailers between the docks and designated drop parking spaces in a safe and efficient manner. Inspect trailers before transporting to identify issues of mechanical maintenance needs and/or potential safety hazards. Maintain organization of the trailer yard to ensure the efficient and safe transport of trailers. Maintain cleanliness and safety of work area and warehouse. Perform other tasks including pallet building as determined and requested by management. May perform duties other than switching as assigned. Requirements and Qualifications Essential Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required. 1 to 3 years of work experience in a related field. Valid driver's license. Ability to read, write, and use a radio. Ability to work in a fast-paced atmosphere while walking and repetitively lifting 30 lbs. Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. Ability to collaborate within a team environment. Ability to coordinate and organize efficient and dependable warehouse processes. Preferred Qualifications: PIT (Powered Industrial Truck) Certification including Pallet Jack, Forklift, Double Forklift, and Switch Tractor. Skills and Competencies: Attention to detail and ability to differentiate packages. Ability to work while exposed to the elements and in a noisy and non-climate controlled environment. Intentional self-starter who takes initiative and proactively seeks out value-add opportunities. Flexibility in scheduling is required as work hours are subject to change based on business demands.
