Job Function: Review and analyze medical records, police reports, photos, and other documentation related to bodily injury claims to examine the relation of the claimed injuries to an accident, the severity of the injuries, the justification of the medical care provided by physicians, physical therapists, chiropractors and others, and the reasonable cost of such treatment. Write case reports and note observations applying Casentric's unique argument- and evidence-based reporting methodology. Location: The position is remote. Position Summary: A Medical Records Analyst is responsible for supporting work performed by Casentric on behalf of its clients. The Medical Records Analyst is responsible for reviewing, annotating and analyzing medical records and related documentation that we receive from our clients. The Medical Records Analyst: • reviews, identifies and critically analyzes injury assessments and treatment prescribed by physicians, physical therapists, chiropractors and other medical providers • identifies and understands medical and other treatments • marks and annotates records to provide observations relative to the assessments and treatment • converts information obtained from emergency room, physical therapist, chiropractic, police and other records into arguments about the relationship between the claimed injuries to a reported accident, the nature and extent of injury, and the justification of treatment in our proprietary software application • compares the cost of services rendered to amounts typically paid for these services • works with other team members to ensure proper transfer and recording of information and observations into reports, including through Casentric’s proprietary software application, and communicates the Analyst's reports to customers Essential Job Functions • 80%—Review, mark, analyze and document observations related to injury assessments and medical, chiropractic and other prescribed treatment. Identify arguments for which support exists in records. Apply procedures to ensure consistency, completeness and quality of work. • 10%—Collaborate with Casentric staff to ensure that your observations are communicated correctly for application in Casentric’s process and our clients’ use. Respond to follow up questions or requests. • 10%—Other duties as assigned. Physical Demands/Working Conditions/Other Requirements • This is a remote work position • Applicants must have a quiet office/workspace that is physically separate and can be physically secured (e.g., locked) to protect and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information (all documentation is accessed and viewed on-screen only) • Training is provided remotely, with heavy concentration during the first 30 days and on-going thereafter • No travel is required • Computer equipment necessary to perform the work is provided by Casentric Required Qualifications • Nursing degree (RN, LPN). Minimum of 3 years’ experience in relevant practice areas. • Experience with medical documentation, knowledge of injury mechanics and modes of treatment, strong analytical and decision-making skills, and ability to write clearly and succinctly for laypersons • Knowledge of medical diagnosis and treatment standards is helpful and preferred • Medical bill coding experience is helpful for this role and preferred, though other experience is valued, e.g., nursing experience, emergency room experience, etc. • Ability to read and understand SOAP notes, injury diagnoses, treatment records (medical, chiropractor, physical therapy, etc.), and medical bills • Strong reading, writing and oral communication skills are required • Proficiency, facility and comfort with using computers, software applications, including Microsoft Teams, Excel and Word, and problem-solving minor technical issues • Ability to work remotely, independently, under remote supervision Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics • Ability to read, comprehend, and critically evaluate medical records, medical billing, and other documentation, individually and as a whole • Experience and/or training reviewing and gleaning information from medical documents • Passion for reading medical records and connecting all of the pieces to understand whether (1) an accident was the cause of an injury, (2) treatment was medically justified, (3) the severity of the injuries comports with the records, and (4) the billed charges for treatment were reasonable • Strong attention to detail • Intellectually curious and analytical • A self-starter and problem-solver • Collaborative/team player • Organized, able to multi-task • Adaptable/flexible personality • Comfortable/facile with computers and software Casentric provides training on the software applications we use, as well as the proprietary methodology we apply for reviewing, analyzing and documenting findings from medical records and other documentation.
