Metadata & Discovery Librarian, Assistant/Associate Professor

Ida Jane Dacus Library and Louise Pettus Archives and Special Collections at Winthrop University seeks a Metadata and Discovery Librarian to join a collaborative and supportive Technical and Digital Initiatives (TDI) team. As the principal metadata librarian and cataloger, this position plays a pivotal role in ensuring the discoverability and accessibility of our library and archival collections. This is a 12-month, tenure-track faculty appointment at the assistant or associate professor level. The Metadata and Discovery Librarian reports to the Head of Technical and Digital Initiatives.Salary range:$60,000-$63,000, commensurate with experience. This position will remain open until filled. ResponsibilitiesLibraryResponsibilities:Catalog physical and digital library resources using national systems and standardsMaintain authority control and ensure accuracy of holdings in our SLSPManage collection maintenance projects and develop processing workflowsProvide training and guidance to metadata and cataloging Library SpecialistsMaintain institutional repository integrity and enhance discoverability across all collectionsEstablish and refine workflows for archival metadata creation and maintenanceFacultyResponsibilities:Teach information literacy sessions and participate in reference rotationsParticipate in collection development and serve as departmental liaison for select academic unitsEngage in scholarship, service, and professional development activities aligned with tenure and promotion requirementsCollaborate with colleagues on special projects and initiativesQualificationsRequired:ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS degreeOne or more years of professional metadata and cataloging experience in a library settingDemonstrated proficiency with cataloging and metadata tools and standards, including MARC21, RDA/AACR2, LC classification, Dublin Core, and LCSHProficiency with OCLC WorldCat and integrated library systems (Ex Libris Alma/Primo, experience preferred)Good working knowledge of authority control standards, controlled vocabularies, and metadata workflowsStrong commitment to accuracy and attention to detail in technical workExcellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skillsAbility to work collaboratively and contribute to a team environmentPreferred:NACO certification or equivalent training in authority controlKnowledge of OAI-PMH, metadata mapping, or linked data conceptsExperience with open-access web publishingExperience working in academic libraries or familiarity with academic workflowsExperience with archival materials and institutional repositories, or digital collectionsSupervisory, mentoring, and project coordination experienceDemonstrated ability to adapt to emerging metadata standards and evolving technologiesInterest in emerging technologies like BibFrame or open-access publishingApplication InstructionsAll materials must be submitted electronically via Interfolio.For questions about the position, contact the Dacus Library Search Committee,Applications should consist of the following:Letter of applicationCurriculum vitae (CV)The names, titles, addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, of at least three (3) professional references.
